Directorship for the Development and Support of SMEs: KOSGEB
KOSGEB is a public agency associated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and was founded in 1990 with a public corporate status, subject to private law. The purpose of KOSGEB is to assist SMEs to adapt themselves to scientific and technological innovations swiftly, ensuring that they operate effectively to increase their competitiveness and revenues, resulting in a greater contribution to the economy at a macro level.
was established with the purpose of supporting enterprises operating in various branches of the manufacturing industry by offering solutions to the technical and economic problems SMEs are confronted with, in and out of their work environments. KOSGEB assists SMEs in their development, attaining higher levels of quality, technology and market opportunities. It maintains close and direct contacts with, and offers diverse services to, SMEs in almost all areas, from start-up to production and marketing. Major services may be listed as:
- Rendering productions compatible with international standards and conditions of competition in the EU and the Customs Union and raising the quality of regional output
- Enhancing competitiveness in national and international markets through the employment of innovative ideas
- Submission of projects to identify and support new investment areas to create jobs
- Establishment of industry-university cooperation and access to information on technical and commercial issues
- Financial and technical support to entrepreneurs through national support programs and by providing R&D services aimed at sectoral development utlising experts
- Organisation of training programmes in the areas of technology, finance, management and marketing with a particular emphasis on exports
- Providing consultancy services to enable efficient production in line with a modern understanding of management as well as inspecting, testing and analysing raw materials and finished products at special laboratories to remedy information technology inadequacies
has Technology Development Centres (TEKMER) on university campuses aiming to create new technology oriented enterprises and to establish suitable infrastructure that enables these enterprises to develop their production capacities with the support of managerial, technical and administrative consultancy mechanisms. Encouraging entrepreneurship, commercialisation of R&D efforts, development and diversification of regional economic activities and strengthening university-industry cooperation are also amongst the objectives of these "Business Incubators". One of these centres is also located on Ege University campus, temporarily in the EBILTEM Building.
